Jesse Edgar Carson, a well known and highly respected citizen of Darlington, died at his home Sunday afternoon after an illness of six months duration. His condition had been critical for some time but during the early spring he improved sufficiently to be out of doors a part of the time. He was a painter by trade and had a large number of friends. The following obituary was read at the funeral, which was held at the home Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock in charge of Rev. Bradbury of the South Christian Church. Interment was made at Greenlawn Cemetery. Jesse Edgar Carson, son of Huston and Mary Carson was born in Darlington, November 19, 1858 and departed this life at 4:30 p.m. June 30, 1918 aged 59 Years 7 Months and 11 Days. He was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Scannel July 4, 1890. He leaves a wife, an adopted son, Glen Carson of Darlington, a half sister, Mrs. Mattie Manning, also of Darlington and many other relatives and friends. Of the persons now living in Darlington who have spent their entire life here he was the oldest. He was an honest and well respected citizen and will be greatly missed by his many friends. During his last illness he spoke often of his faith in Christ and expressed a desire to be at rest.
